Research indicates that dietary supplements are commonly used specifically for dermatological purposes. 3, 4 One topic of increasing interest to consumers is that of skin, hair, and nail supplements, which are often advertised on social media and endorsed by celebrities. Further, international research suggests that social media is becoming increasingly relevant as a source for health-related information for young people. American consumers, 1 especially teens and young adults, 2 often turn to the internet for health information. To better advise patients, healthcare professionals must understand the promotion of health and dermatologic products on social media.
